Frequently Asked Questions & Support
ToolTux FAQs & Help Center
Find clear, accurate answers to common questions about ToolTux's browser utilities, client-side data handling, commercial usage rights, supported browsers, and cookie preferences.
- What is ToolTux and who is it built for?
- ToolTux is an independent collection of browser-based utilities for software developers, web designers, students, content writers, and security learners. It brings together everyday code formatters, encoders, CSS and image tools, text converters, SEO helpers, and header inspection utilities in one clean workspace. Every tool opens directly in your web browser without installing desktop programs or browser extensions.
- Are the tools on ToolTux completely free, and do I need an account?
- Yes, every public utility on ToolTux is free to use without subscriptions, trial timers, or credit limits. You never need to register an account, verify an email address, or sign in to format code, compress images, generate QR codes, or run calculations. Simply open the tool page and start working right away.
- Does ToolTux upload or store the code, text, or files I process in tools?
- Direct client-side utilities—such as the JSON Formatter, Regex Tester & Debugger, Hash Generator, Password Generator, Image Compressor, and PDF Tools—process your inputs locally inside your browser memory using standard JavaScript, HTML5 Canvas, and Web Crypto APIs. Your pasted text, tokens, and selected image files are not uploaded to ToolTux backend servers during tool execution. ToolTux communicates with Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore only to load public directory settings and to save voluntary community actions such as likes, comments, reviews, and contact form messages.
- What is the difference between Direct Tools and Sandbox Tools on ToolTux?
- Direct Tools run natively inside the main ToolTux page layout as lightweight on-demand JavaScript modules, downloading only the specific tool chunk you open. Sandbox Tools provide dedicated workspaces for tasks like HTML sanitization, JSON tree exploration, SQL query formatting, regex debugging, and JWT claim inspection, with an optional live subdomain embed when configured. Remember that opening an external link or live hosted subdomain embed connects your browser to that host, so you should avoid pasting live production secrets into external services.
- Can I use code, CSS, QR codes, images, and PDFs generated on ToolTux for commercial projects?
- Yes, you retain full ownership of every output you create using ToolTux utilities. Formatted code snippets, CSS gradients and border rules, robots.txt files, meta tags, static QR code PNGs, compressed images, and exported PDF documents can be used freely in personal, academic, client, and commercial projects. No attribution back to ToolTux is required.
- Is it safe to check passwords or cryptographic hashes on ToolTux?
- Our Password Generator, Password Strength Checker, Hash Generator, and Hash Identifier execute locally inside your browser using window.crypto.getRandomValues, Web Crypto digest routines, and client-side JavaScript without transmitting your input over the network. Even with client-side execution, good operational security means testing patterns with synthetic strings rather than pasting active production passwords or live API keys into any web browser tab. For JWT inspection, remember that local Base64Url decoding reveals header and payload claims without verifying the token signature.
- How do the Image Compressor and PDF Tools work without uploading my files?
- When you select an image in the Image Compressor, your browser decodes the file locally using the FileReader and HTML5 Canvas APIs, re-encodes it at your chosen quality level, and creates a downloadable Blob URL directly in memory. Similarly, PDF Tools formats your document content inside the browser and uses native browser print-to-PDF rendering so private drafts stay on your device. Closing or refreshing the tab clears the temporary in-memory files immediately.
- Which web browsers and devices are supported?
- ToolTux works on current versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Brave across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. Each tool workspace uses a responsive layout so sliders, code editors, and copy buttons remain usable on both desktop monitors and mobile screens. Standard JavaScript and modern Web APIs must be enabled in your browser.
- Why does ToolTux show advertisements, and how can I manage Cookie Preferences?
- ToolTux displays advertisements through Google AdSense to help cover domain, hosting, and ongoing maintenance costs while keeping all tools free for everyone. Ad slots are kept separate from interactive tool controls, and Google Consent Mode v2 keeps non-essential advertising and analytics storage denied until you choose your preferences. You can review, customize, or withdraw your consent at any time by clicking "Cookie Preferences" in the site footer or visiting our Cookie Policy page.
- How does Dark Mode and local preference saving work?
- When you toggle between Light Mode and Dark Mode or collapse the desktop navigation rail, ToolTux saves that visual preference in your browser localStorage under keys such as tooltux_theme_pref and tooltux_sidebar_expanded. Your last five search terms are also kept locally on your device for quick suggestions and can be cleared directly inside the search dropdown. None of these interface preferences require an account or send personal profile data to a server.
- How can I report a calculation bug or suggest a new browser tool?
- If you encounter an unexpected formatting result, a layout glitch, or an unclear explanation, visit our Contact page and select the "Bug Report" category. Including the tool name, your browser and operating system, and a small non-sensitive sample input helps us reproduce and fix the issue quickly. You can also use the same form to suggest new developer, designer, or utility tools you would like to see added.
- How do I contact the developer for privacy requests or general questions?
- You can reach Huzaifa directly through the online message form on the Contact page or by sending an email to tooltux1@gmail.com. Use either channel if you have questions about our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, or Terms of Service, or if you want a previously submitted comment, review, or contact message removed. Every inquiry is read personally and handled as promptly as possible.
